He attended the Pachipamwe Workshops held in 1989 and 1994 in Zimbabwe, as well as the later Batapata Workshop in 2004 and also SAMPORIA in Gothenburg in 2000.

 

Voti was awarded the Presidents Award of Honour in 1997. In 2003 he won the Outstanding Achievement in the Visual Arts Best Service Award from NAMA. On various occasions he has been invited to Europe and has spent time in Finland, Sweden and the UK. He was most recently selected for and travelled the Venice Biennale as a participating artist in the Zimbabwe Pavilion 2013.

Biography

Voti Thebe (pronounced 'Vote') is an artist with many  talents. He was born in Bulawayo on 9th December 1953 and studied art at Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre in that city from 1970 to 1973. At various times he has been a sculptor, painter, graphic artist, performer and a textilist, all of which he now combines with his fulltime role as Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

 

Voti joined the Bulawayo Art Gallery in 1975 and has participated in numerous exhibitions since 1978. He travelled to study office management, management of the arts and Museum studies in Canada. An integral member of the arts scene in the City of Kings, he has been tireless in his promotion of fellow artists and in raising the profile of contemporary Zimbabwean art. Voti is currently Regional Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.
